For a while now, I’ve noticed that my Danby Premiere (model DDR60A3GP) dehumidifier from Costco hasn’t worked as well as it used to. It would run constantly, as it always does in our perpetually moist basement, but never put a drop of water in the tank. I’m religious about cleaning the removable filter and it does get dirty, but still nothing.

I then decided to take it apart a little bit (as much as I’m comfortable taking apart a major appliance) and I discovered what was really keeping the unit from performing.

NOTE: This video is intended only to demonstrate what I did to my particular unit, so try this only at your own risk. Always unplug the unit before doing this and consult a professional (ie. not me!) if you are not comfortable doing something like this yourself.
